The Forum of Critical Chinese Qualitative Research
In 2015, I established the Forum to advance critical Chinese qualitative research through dialogues, scholarly research, and curriculum development. It is a Special Interest Group affiliated with the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry. The Forum organizes an annual pre-conference for interested scholars to share knowledge, identify challenges, and explore strategies that simultaneously advance critical Chinese qualitative research and contribute of the globalization of qualitative research.

我受过历史和社会学的专业训练,从加州大学洛杉矶分校毕业后,就在多伦多大学的社会学系任教。这些年来,透过田野调查、深入访谈、研读历史档案,探索社会性别关系和质性研究方法的发展。
在社会性别关系这个领域,我特别关注家庭结构、性别关系和社区发展等议题。为了了解妇女对台湾经济发展的贡献,我深入台湾的木制珠宝箱工厂做田野调查。从九零年代初期,我就开始跟中国社会性别领域的学者和NGO组织合作,过去二十年,有很深入的合作交流。
过去几年,我针对【质性研究方法】在第三世界的发展进行研究,我特别指出,第三世界的学者需要在【立足本土、放眼全球】的前提下,探索质性研究在本土的实践和发展。以中国为案例,我指出,从方法论和认识论的角度看来,毛泽东的【社会调查】跟【质性研究方法】有本质的不同,因此毛泽东的【社会调查】不应跟【质性研究方法】混为一谈,学界有必要从批判性的视角检视【社会调查】在大跃进大饥荒期间(1958-62)的应用,更需要剖析【社会调查】对80年代的社会学重建、以及当代的社会科学领域的影响。
